Costume Design Course Work

Fall 2022

Course: Costume Design

School: University of Wisconsin Milwaukee

Professor: Jason Orlenko

The Importance of Being Earnest

This was our first big project, designing costumes for "The Importance of Being Earnest" in full color. This project was also focused on research in costume history because we had to pick a decade to set it in between 1880 and 1910. I picked the 1890s.

Eurydice

This was our last project for the course. Pretty similar to the first big project except this one was more up to interpretation. I choose a 70s vintage vegas aesthetic that placed all of the overworld action in a dull and humid vegas and the underworld action in a brightly lit neon sign graveyard.

Ornamentation

For this exercise, we were given four character descriptions (Flirty Girl, Tragic Lover, Vegas Dancer, and Court Jester) and were asked to come up with costume designs for each with a focus on ornamentation.

Juliets

For this exercise, we had to come up with two different design concepts for Juliet from Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" and give her two different costume designs. I picked a production that put every character in drag and one set in the 50s with a creepy nuclear family edge to it.

Songs

This was the first exercise of the semester and we had to pick two songs and come up with two costume designs for each. I chose
